Nurturing Children’s Creativity

Finger paint, glitter glue, crayons and, most importantly, fun and healthy development – are all at the heart of Born Learning Washington’s “Nurturing Children’s Creativity” campaign. Children of all ages and developmental stages are capable of creating art. By creating art, children can explore, stretch their imagination and develop motor, thinking and communication skills. We will depend on the babies and toddlers of today to lead our companies and communities and contribute to our society. Those children encouraged to be creative today will be able to think through problems and issues in new and different ways tomorrow.

This May and June, many of the Born Learning communities listed above will take part in the campaign by documenting local children’s creative process through photographs and children’s artwork. The public will be invited to view the artwork of local babies, toddlers, and preschoolers of participating communities and discover how fun everyday activities, like art, can help children learn and grow. These pieces reflect art at different developmental stages and are meant to showcase art as a process rather than art as a product.

While most of the children who created art for the statewide campaign did so in a child-care center, the campaign encourages families to create art at home with their children. In addition to having fun with a child, parents or other relatives can use this opportunity to pass on family and cultural traditions.

More than 700 pieces of children’s artwork will be professionally framed by Museum Quality Framing. The following photos from various local campaigns capture a few of the young artists at work!

"We are excited at the opportunity to show art in action and the public our youngest Clark County artists - babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. So much development occurs when a child creates art, and we know that development connects directly to a child’s learning and readiness for kindergarten."

–Corina McEntire, Born Learning Clark County coordinator
