Early Learning Plan

In September 2010, Thrive, the Department of Early Learning (DEL), Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), and more than one hundred community partners completed the state’s first Early Learning Plan.

The Early Learning Plan is a 10-year roadmap for building a coordinated, comprehensive system of early learning in Washington. It advances 36 specific strategies for connecting stakeholders across sectors and building a solid foundation for ready and successful children; parents, families, and caregivers; early learning professionals; schools; and systems and communities.

In addition, the Early Learning Partnership, which includes Thrive, DEL and OSPI, developed a One-Year Action Plan, prioritizing 11 of these strategies for immediate implementation.

Watch the Learning for Life segment with Dr. Bette Hyde, director of the state Department of Early Learning, and Nina Auerbach, president and CEO of Thrive by Five Washington, talking about the statewide early learning plan, what big changes are in store to help young children and families in Washington state and what role parents and families play in the plan.
