Home Visiting

The arrival of a new baby is a time of joy and transition for every family. Some families face additional hurdles. They are young, single or low income and need extra support to ensure their families grow and thrive.

Home visiting is a proven way to help children from vulnerable families get a better start in life. Voluntary home visiting programs connect parents with trained professionals who regularly visit the home to help support the initial bond between parent and child which is essential to a child’s healthy growth and development. As a result, children are safer, healthier, better prepared to learn and more likely to become successful adults. Parents are supported as well, and the whole family benefits.

Home Visiting Services Account
(HVSA)

Created with bipartisan support by the 2010 Legislature, the Home Visiting Services Account (HVSA) funds, supports and evaluates evidence-based, research-based and promising voluntary home visiting programs, so that more families benefit from this kind of support. The state Department of Early Learning contracts with Thrive to administer the Home Visiting Services Account. Thrive also raises private funds to match public support.

Thrive by Five Washington manages the funds for the HVSA; it does not provide home visiting services to individual families. If you would like to learn more about home visiting eligibility, please call the Family Help Line at 1-800-932-HOPE, or go to The Parent Trust resource database to find out more about home visiting programs near you.
