Working Together

Joint Resolution SigningThrive by Five Washington knows that if Washington's early learning efforts are to be successful we must work together. And that's why Thrive works hard to forge and foster strong, meaningful partnerships with a spectrum of organizations that recognize the importance of and critical need to enhance early learning in the state.

A diverse group of public and private partners has come together to create and support Thrive because of a belief that public-private partnerships combine the assets of each sector to help achieve sustainable social change. The public sector offers experience, considerable public resources and infrastructure, and political legitimacy. Private organizations, such as foundations and businesses, bring expertise, credibility, nimbleness, rigor and flexible funding to an issue.

Thrive by Five Washington participates in a number of active early learning partnerships including:

Statewide Early Learning Plan
Thrive by Five is working in partnership with the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and the state Department of Early Learning (DEL) to lead the creation of a statewide early learning plan by the 2010 legislative session.

Gov. Gregoire asked the organizations for a plan that ensures all Washington children and their families have the benefit of early childhood education. The scope of the early learning plan will focus on children birth through
age 8.

All documents related to this work are on the Department of Early Learning Web site. Go to http://www.del.wa.gov/partnerships/elac/elp.aspx to view current documents, learn more about the statewide process that includes many partners and share your perspective. New drafts of documents and opportunities to respond will be posted as they are drafted so you are encouraged to visit often.

Gathering broad stakeholder input is highly valued. If you would like to become a “key communicator” and assist us in gathering feedback on what is being created, please e-mail communications@del.wa.gov.

Early Learning Partnership
Thrive by Five Washington, the Washington State Department of Early Learning and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction work together under the Early Learning Partnership to improve early learning opportunities for all Washington children. The agreement outlines how the three entities will work together to promote school readiness in such key areas as kindergarten readiness assessment planning, child care quality, parenting information and support, and early literacy. Read the Washington State Early Learning Partnership Joint Resolution that guides the partnership.

Early Learning Action Alliance (ELAA)
The Early Learning Action Alliance, led by the Children's Alliance, is a consortium of organizations advocating for early learning to be a statewide priority through increased state investments and effective, strategic and integrated early learning polices that will improve outcomes for all children. ELAA's mission is for every Washington child, starting at birth, to have equitable access to the relationships, education and opportunities needed to be healthy and ready to succeed in kindergarten.

Early Learning Advisory Council (ELAC)
The Early Learning Advisory Council was created by the 2007 Legislature. ELAC representatives from around the state, including two from Thrive by Five Washington, meet regularly to provide input and recommendation to the state Department of Early Learning so that our strategies and actions are well-informed and broadly supported by parents, child care providers, health/safety experts and interested members of the public.

Early Learning Communications Roundtable
A partnership of communications representative from major early learning organizations and other partners work together to maximize and coordinate messaging and materials on early learning in Washington.

Thrive by Five Washington Board Committees
Thrive's board of directors are advised by a number of standing committees that include board members and others who want to partner with us to advance our mission.

In addition to our Board of Directors, the following organizations work with us to achieve our goals:
